Offline citizens are not proper citizens

In today’s Adult Learning supplement in the Guardian Martha Lane Fox does not mince her words when she says ‘I don’t think you can be a proper citizen of our society in future if you are not engaged online’. She qaulifies this with ‘in the future’ but rapidly this future is arriving.

Race Online 2012 has really moved us forward in the UK but my main reswrvation is the simplistic notion that rather like the electric current in a semi conductor we are either ‘on’ or ‘off’ . Digital skills are extensive and complex and range from the simple ‘buttonology’ of software operation to the skills of content creation and creation of a digital identity.
